Home / Using JVISION / Using an External Editor / External Editor Options

These are the default settings for the external editor.

By default, only “Use Shell defaults...” is checked.  The JVISION source editor will be opened when you select Edit | Source... or double click a class.  Also, the JVISION source editor will be opened when neither “Use external editor” and “Use Shell defaults...” are checked.

If you want to use a specific application to open and edit your source code, uncheck “Use Shell default...” and check “Use external editor”.  Then, locate your application by clicking the Browse... button. (Please see JBuilder for External Editor if you want to use JBuilder as your editor).

If both checkboxes are checked, and you have already installed Visual Cafe at Extras\Install in\Visual Cafe, then Visual Cafe will be opened as your external editor. If you have not installed Visual Cafe, WordPad will be opened.

Note:  When you make changes in the source editor, you may have to update the diagram to see the changes. Do this by going to File | Update on the menu bar, or by double clicking a blank area in the Diagram Painter.
